Our Mission

The International Practice Management Association (IPMA) is the primary source of information and education for managers in law firms, corporations, and law departments. We provide an inclusive community that promotes and enhances the proficiency and professionalism of our members. We deliver practical resources and cutting-edge solutions on the value and management of professionals in the legal environment.

IPMA Membership Qualifications

Membership is available to any individual employed by a law firm, corporate in-house legal department, government, judicial or administrative agency, court system, or charitable legal agency who meets the criteria required by the selected membership level. For this application, practice support professionals may include paralegals, project assistants, litigation support personnel, docketing clerks, contract lawyers, nurse consultants, government relations consultants, and other professionals who have received specialized training and/or education to assist lawyers and legal departments and who are responsible for generating revenue or would otherwise be responsible for generating revenue if they were working in a law firm.
 

Duties & Responsibilities

For Regular Membership, you must indicate at least five duties in at least two categories of responsibilities AND your answer to Question 3 must be 1 or greater.
For Associate Membership you must indicate at least three duties in at least two categories of responsibilities.
For Affiliate Membership you must indicate at least two of the duties listed below.

 
Personnel Administration:

□ Benefits administration
□ Approval of CLE
□ Performance Evaluation
□ Temporary staffing
□ Classification of practice support professionals
□ Employee Relations
□ Discipline and Termination
 
Financial Management:
□ Budget Planning/ forecasting/ preparation
□ Other financial analyses beyond mere record keeping
□ Salary administration
□ Preparation of financial reports
□ Establishment of billing rates
 
Policy and Procedures:
□ Delegation of work assignments
□ Coordination of work flow
□ Preparation of office manuals/handbooks
□ Training of personnel
□ Strategic and target planning
□ Organizational Development
□ Development of systems, policies, or procedures
 
Technology:
□ Review, evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of systems that facilitate practice support professional tasks
□ Training practice support professionals on technology systems
