The International Practice Management Association is your primary resource for information and education on the management of practice support professionals including paralegals in law firms, corporations, and law departments globally. Its mission is to advocate for the effective use and management of these professionals, to promote and enhance the proficiency and professionalism of its members, and to provide practical resources and cutting-edge solutions to the membership, the legal industry, and the public at large on the value of utilization and management of practice support professionals.

Navigating Your Way Through Budgeting and Financials
As the current or future head of a team, a department or a functional group, understanding the budgetary process and financial information within your organization is critical to securing resources, tracking progress towards strategic objectives and establishing yourself as a business savvy leader.   During this four hour session, you will participate in a practical, hands on approach to the budgetary process in a small group setting using highly interactive, virtual learning techniques.  You will discuss the phases of the budgetary cycle, information you need to construct a budget, how to advocate for resources and what to do if/when reforecasting a budget becomes necessary.  In addition, you will get familiar with key financial terms, learn how to get access to financial information within your organization and how to develop financial metrics for tracking and reporting purposes.  The insight from our highly experienced speakers who work in some of the largest law firms and in house legal departments in the world, makes trying to get one of the limited spots at this year’s Master Class the best investment you will make this year!

Tara Eberhart
Tara K. Eberhart
Tara Kim Eberhart is the Practice and Docketing Director at Dentons US.  As Practice Director, Tara coordinates the day to day operations of the national Intellectual Property & Technology, Federal Regulatory and Capital Markets Practice Groups.  Working closely with the Firm Managing Partner, Chief Practice Officer and Practice Group Leaders, Tara plays a critical role in executing the Firm’s strategic plan and delivering on revenue and profitability objectives. Tara also oversees the 120+ member Paralegal program, the General/Litigation and the Intellectual Property Docketing teams for the US Region. 
Tara began her paralegal career in a small general practice firm, Michael Murphy and Associates, where she handled  Family Law, Trusts & Estates and minor Juvenile criminal related matters.  After three years, she moved to Oblon Spivak, one of the top IP Boutique firms in the country, to join their Patent Litigation practice. As her initial step into paralegal management, Tara was recruited by Morgan Lewis & Bockius to lead the Bio/Chemical Patent Litigation team before she moved to McKenna Long and Aldridge and developed the national Paralegal program that formed the foundation for the Dentons US program following the 2015 merger.
Tara earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Mary Washington (1993) and her Masters in Legal Administration (MALA) from Marymount University (2011). She is currently the Vice President of Trends and Positions for the International Practice Management Association (IPMA)and has served as Co-Chair and then Chair of the Washington D.C. Chapter.  In 2019, Tara was honored to receive the IPMA President’s Award for her IPMA leadership. Tara is a Past President and Advisory Board Member of the National Capital Area Paralegal Association (NCAPA) and her program is a two time recipient of the Paralegal Program Excellence Award (2010 and 2014).
Tara is a member of the George Washington University Paralegal Studies Program Advisory Board and a current member of the faculty (Adjunct Professor, Litigation). In 2015, she was awarded the GW College of Professional Studies Faculty Excellence award and was recognized by the GW Paralegal Alumni Association for her efforts on behalf of the paralegal students. She is a frequent speaker and author on issues affecting the business of law and the paralegal profession and volunteers her time as a mentor to others exploring careers in the legal industry. Tara’s career, association involvement and professional achievements are made possible by the support from her husband Robert and their daughter, Madison.
Patricia "Patty" Maxwell
Patty has been an IPMA member since 2006 and is the current President. She has served on the IPMA Board since 2015, chairing several different committees during her tenure. 
Currently, Patty is the Fixed Fee Litigation Specialist at Arnold & Porter.  Before moving into this position, for 13 years she was the firm-wide paralegal manager at A&P, where she has been since 2005.  Prior to joining A&P, Patty was at Cadwalder, Wickersham and Taft in NYC as well as Whitman Breed Abbott (Breed Abbott and Morgan) where she was a senior litigation and trial paralegal.  She also did a short turn as a corporate record keeping paralegal at Schlumberger, Ltd.  Patty has been a paralegal (primarily focused on litigation) since 1980.  Patty earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Virginia.

Laura Porter
Over 20 years of experience in a legal environment. Prior to joining OMERS in 2014, was a Manager and Senior law clerk at a Toronto law firm whose duties included department administrative matters, staffing, developing, implementing departmental policies and procedures, providing information regarding corporate procedures, conducting seminars for students and lawyers and monitoring workflow. Corporate and security matters including, incorporation, amendments, amalgamations, continuances, revivals, asset and share transactions, reorganizations, corporate record keeping, drafting closing agendas, agreements, prospectus documents, coordinating complex transactions, regulatory filings for SEDAR and SEDI including preparation of public filing documents.

A member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario and International Practice Management Association. Immediate Past-President and Director of the International Practice Management Association.

Lisa Ricchezza
Lisa has been a member of IPMA since 1990 and currently the President-Elect.  She was Vice-President Division II Chapter Development & Support (2017–2019). Lisa continues to be an active member of the Philadelphia Chapter (Chair 2014-2017).  She was a member of the IPMA committee (then LAMA) who planned the 1999 conference held in Philadelphia.  She received her B.A. in Criminal Justice from LaSalle University and a General Practice certificate from the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Training.  Lisa was an active member of the Philadelphia Association of Paralegals and was President of the association for two years.  She also held roles within several committees; was Treasurer and the led the committee for the NFPA conference that was held in Philadelphia in 1990.  Lisa has practiced as a litigation paralegal since 1980 and paralegal administrator at Dechert LLP since 1986.  In 2009, Lisa took on a global role and now is the Senior Paralegal & Legal Professional Manager responsible for paralegals and legal professionals in 20 offices worldwide.
