Chaired by Toronto natives and IPMA past presidents Victoria Snook and Karen Tuschak, this year's three-day program featured the latest trends, current issues, and distinct challenges that face practice managers and the support professionals they supervise. Educational sessions presented by 27 distinguished speakers focused on human resources, technology and innovation, communications, organizational management, and career development. Inspiring keynote addresses by Suzanne Bernier and André Serero tied together the fundamental leadership principles upon which the IPMA annual conference is founded. Extremely positive participant evaluations make it clear—the IPMA truly has its finger on the pulse of the practice management profession.

The IPMA welcomed 30 business partners, exhibitors, and sponsors from across the United States and Canada to its sold-out expo and, with their enduring support, delivered on its pledge to provide the most efficient means for practice managers to evaluate the newest products and services available from legal industry service providers. Between the in-depth, one-on-one conversations and the entertaining social festivities, attendees and exhibitors alike applauded the unique relationship-building opportunities offered through IPMA engagement.

During the association's annual business meeting, members recognized the many strides the IPMA has made over the past 12 months under the direction of its dedicated Board of Directors and enthusiastic volunteers. Outgoing President Marcia Bibb honored Gary Melhuish with the IPMA President's Award for his outstanding leadership, infinite energy, and extensive service to the association during his 22 years of membership. Awards Committee Co-Chair Paige Stepan, and 2015 award recipient Carlson Floy, presented Dean Pallas of Capitol Services with the IPMA's 2016 Rising Star Award. Pallas was honored for investing in the growth of the IPMA, breathing life into IPMA events with his infectious personality, and contributing to the success of others time and again.

With much anticipation, Bibb announced the IPMA's 2017 Board of Directors and passed the gavel to incoming president Deb Clarke who thanked IPMA members for their unwavering comradery, invaluable advice, and tireless efforts to promote the practice management profession. Clarke pledged to lead the IPMA with ambition for growing the association's diverse network of practice managers, expanding its collection of management resources, providing relevant and timely industry updates, and delivering high-quality professional development programs to IPMA members.

Clarke motivated conference participants describing her personal progression toward the IPMA presidency. She appealed to members to become a voice within the association and to advance their career with an IPMA leadership position. When recalling the highlights of her own career, Clarke ranked her involvement with the IPMA among her most rewarding experiences and concluded the association's past accomplishments and bright future result directly from the insight and constructive efforts of its membership. Through thunderous applause, Clarke thrilled conference participants with a glimpse of everything 2017 has in store including heading down to The Big Easy for next year's annual conference.
